Digital Work
Astrea Goddess of Justice, 2020, Digital collage on paper, 22 x 20 in.
This portrait is focusing on the moment that Jovita Idar wrote an article criticizing President Wilson’s militarization of the U.S/ Mexico border. In response, the Texas Rangers were ordered to destroy El Progresso, the newspaper that Idar worked for. When the Rangers arrived, Idar stood in their way protecting the printing press and her freedom of speech. Jovita’s memory radiates resilence over the Texas Ranger’s history of torment towards Mexicans and Mexican Americans.
